The Trenton Devils are a team in North America's premier "AA" hockey league, the ECHL. They are owned and affiliated by the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils and affiliated with the American Hockey League's Lowell Devils. The Devils play their home games at the 7,605-seat Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey. Since Trenton's inception in 1999, they have brought competitive and exciting hockey to New Jersey's capital city. They have also become a perennial playoff team, appearing in the post season in seven of the last nine years.
The Trenton franchise played its first game in the ECHL in 1999. In its first game at Sun National Bank Center (Formerly Sovereign Bank Arena), Trenton's new professional hockey team shut out the Johnstown Chiefs, 3-0. Trenton quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with, reaching the conference final in its first season in the league. In 2001, Trenton took its play a step further, reaching the Kelly Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. Trenton continued to play strong and competitive hockey, reaching the postseason in two of the next three seasons.
